Window Display – Liberation of the Channel Islands

This post was written by Anaïs Niobey

In honour of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the Channel Islands, the windows of the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche have been decorated in their colours.

You’ll find historical information about the occupation of the islands, which were liberated from 9 May 1945, almost a year after the Normandy Landings, as well as period artefacts.

One of our displays also highlights the Normandy for Peace initiative, led by the Normandy Region, which, like the Channel Islands, bears an enduring mark of its past under occupation.

Thank you very much to our various partners who helped us bring these displays to life: Alex Fearn for the loan of historical artefacts and their detailed descriptions, Noel Le Fondré, the Normandy Region, the Jersey Evening Post, Channel Islands Occupation Society, Guernsey Press, Sark Tourism, and the Alderney Society and Museum.
